Foodies Kent

Food is as big of a part of Kent’s heritage as its beautiful scenery and deep history. With agriculture at its backbone and surrounded by seafood rich seas it has tastes to quench the thirsts of any foodie explorer. Famous for its cherry orchards and Brogdale farm home to the national fruit archive you can find fresh in season produce in farmers markets across the county.

Local artisan producers, such as cheesemakers, bakers and butchers who embrace the old ways and bring them into the 21st  century with ethical values they truly care how their produce makes it to the customer. Exceptional fine food halls, delicatessens and quirky cafes are dotted around the county.

If you're after that most famous of aphrodisiacs you don’t have to look far for the world renowned Whistable oyster, you can enjoy them at a number of establishments dotted around the ever more popular seafront and harbour town or why not visit and celebrate at the Whitstable oyster festival at the end of July and there's no better accompaniment than one of the many tipples that Kent has to choose from.

There is a number of award-winning wines from the many vineyard's, cider from the plentiful orchards and we cannot forget beer from one of the oldest brewery's in the country made with the finest hops also celebrated with a festival in historic Faversham.

Now if that hasn’t wet, your appetite we have restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets from the humble fish”n”chip shops to country pubs and child friendly dining we have you covered. There's also no need to call into London either if you are after that Michelin star fix as we got that covered too with three restaurants deemed worthy of that honour.

THE GOODS SHED

Situated in a rustic Victorian wood-beamed railway shed, this farmers market has been showcasing local produce and fine foods from an array of independent suppliers since 2002. You’ll find a veg stall, butchery and the only independent fishmonger in Canterbury. Their stalls are bursting with artisanal British cheeses, bread baked on-site, fresh pasta, charcuterie and speciality ingredients. They also sell fine wines from independent importers and offer the largest number of British bottled beers in the South East of England. Not to miss casual dining, which reminds us of food stools in the best markets in Europe.
